Does Wal-Mart Help Small Companies?

A bottom-feeding investor might be intrigued by an electronic games maker called Handheld Entertainment, a San Francisco-based company that’s trading at about a third of its 52-week high of $7.78 a share. While the company lost $12 million last year, it competes in a business where one big hit can turn things around for the better.

Govt. Seeing Less Of Un-Employment Claims

It seems that after reaching a high point, application for unempoyment benefits is finally slowing down. This is good news and means that the labor market is getting better then it has been for awhile. last week there were around 339,000 Americans who were filing claims for jobless benefits. This was acctually a drop of 4,000 from the week before.

Diocese Reports Calls Mix-Up

An apparent attempt to transfer church funds without a federal judge’s permission was called a misunderstanding in declarations filed in bankruptcy court yesterday by attorneys representing the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego. The lawyers were responding to federal Judge Louise DeCarl Adler’s “order to show cause” why they and certain pastors should not be held in contempt and face sanctions. The diocese sought Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Feb. 27 in the face of numerous lawsuits alleging sexual abuse by priests in the diocese dating back decades.

Oil Prices Drop $1 A Barrel

Crude oil prices have dropped more than $1 a barrel as tensions eased in the standoff between Britain and Iran over captive British military personnel. Prices were slowly rising steadily since 15 British sailors and marines were detained March 23 by Iran for allegedly entering Iranian waters. On Monday, crude finished below $66 a barrel, matching earlier gains after Iran’s chief international negotiator called for an end to “the language of force” in the dispute.
