Sprint Adds Special Deal To Bring In New Customers
Sprint Nextel had a rough last quarter after they lost over $29 billion and 683,000 billed subscribers. Now they are looking to make a comeback by bringing in new customers with their unlimited calling plan that is said to be better than what Verizon and AT&T offer.
Sprint calls its new option the Simply Everything plan and gives subscribers unlimited voice calls, and also includes unlimited data, e-mail and Web surfing for $99.99 per month. AT&T Wireless and Verizon Wireless $99.99 unlimited plans still charge extra for Web surfing. Sprint’s unlimited plan does not include network use for downloads such as music, games or ringtones.
Existing Sprint customers can switch to the unlimited plan without extending their current contract. New customers are required to sign a two year contract. Sprint will also offer a plan for $89.99 a month that includes unlimited voice and text messaging, undercutting prices on the basic unlimited plans offered by its rivals.
Sprint’s unlimited calling plan is aimed at keeping customers and attracting new ones, amid continued complaints about poor service. Sprint chief executive Daniel Hesse said Thursday the company would unveil plans for improving customer service and operations in the next quarter.
Sprint also stands to lose hundreds of thousands of customers if it’s 3 year old deal to provide wireless service to Qwest Communications customers falls apart. Qwest has said it is considering replacing Sprint as its wireless partner.
